My Husband Missed the Birth of Our First Child — After Discharge, I Returned to an Empty House and a Creepy Note in the Crib
This story is heart-wrenching and brings up so many mixed feelings. On one hand, Elena’s mother intervened, likely thinking she was protecting her daughter and granddaughter from the heartbreak of Michael’s ongoing betrayal. Yet, by making that choice for Elena, she also took away her daughter’s agency to confront and decide for herself how to handle the situation.
Had her mother been upfront from the start, Elena could have been spared from a lot of confusion and additional pain.
If I were in Elena’s place, I might feel deeply betrayed by both Michael and my mother, each in their own way. Rebuilding trust with her mother would take time, even if I ultimately understood that she acted out of love. As for Michael, I’d probably be relieved that he was out of the picture, especially once it became clear that he’d emotionally checked out.
What do you think? Should the mother have given Elena the information earlier or handled it differently?
