When Pakita was rescued off the streets and brought to Argentina’s El Arca Animal Partido de Mar Chiquita, volunteers immediately saw how special she was. One in particular, Silvia Ferreyra, quickly grew attached to the sweet dog. But despite her gentle soul, Pakita was overlooked again and again—most adopters chose younger dogs.
Days turned into months, and months into years.
Pakita began to lose hope. She grew depressed, barely ate, and spent her time curled in the back of her kennel. Her once bright eyes dulled with sadness.
For two long years, the shelter did everything they could to find her a family. As a last-ditch effort, they posted her photo on Facebook—no easy feat, since Pakita was so withdrawn she wouldn’t even face the camera. But finally, they captured a shy little smile and shared her story online.
That’s when a miracle happened.
A woman saw the post and immediately contacted the shelter: “That’s my son’s dog! He’s been looking for her!”
Ariel Naveira had lost Pakita years ago and had long given up hope of ever finding her again. But the moment his mother called, he raced to the shelter the very next day.
