Tanner’s story began on the streets of Houston, Texas. A young stray pup, he wandered in search of food, kindness, and someone to notice him. Finally, his luck changed when he was rescued and brought to a local shelter.

But three weeks passed. No one came for him.
The shelter was overcrowded, and despite his sweet nature, Tanner was heartbreakingly placed on the euthanasia list. That’s when dog advocate Madeline Garvis Smith stepped in. The moment she met him, he hugged her—and it broke her heart.
“He was pure love,” she said. “Some dogs just stick with you. Tanner was one of them.”
