When a Shelter Dog Who Everyone Ignores Gets a Day Out, His First Action Is Quite Endearing
A homeless individual found Midge wandering alone and brought her to Desert Hot Springs Animal Care in North Palm Springs, California.
The staff welcomed her warmly and soon learned about her past—Midge once had a family, but she was separated from them after jumping out of a car window during a gas station stop.
The shelter reached out to her family, expecting a joyful reunion. The owners visited, but what followed deeply saddened the staff and shattered Midge’s spirit.
Abandoned All Over Again
Midge’s owners assured the shelter they would return to pick her up after she recovered from her spay surgery.
She waited patiently, full of hope—but they never came back.
As the days passed, Midge’s hope slowly faded.
Shelter staff did everything they could to keep her spirits up. They frequently shared her story on social media, hoping someone would come forward to adopt her.
Despite their efforts, no one expressed interest. While other dogs were adopted and went home with loving families, Midge remained behind, watching from her kennel as others found their forever homes.
She began to feel invisible, uncertain if she’d ever experience the love she longed for.
The noisy, stressful shelter environment only made things harder. Midge longed for peace, companionship, and affection.
Thankfully, a shelter worker named Alex Hernandez became her beacon of hope. She frequently took Midge on short outings to give her a break and help lift her spirits.
A Life-Changing Moment
One day, Hernandez came to take Midge out once again. She placed her in the front seat of her car, and as they drove away, Midge relaxed in the rare silence—so much so that she quickly drifted off to sleep.
A touching video of that peaceful moment was posted online by Ella Hovsepian, noting how shelter dogs often get only a couple of hours of sleep each night due to the constant noise.
The video resonated with thousands, and thanks to the attention it received, Midge’s life was about to change.
A compassionate family saw the video and decided to adopt her.
Now, Midge is finally home, surrounded by love and comfort.
She no longer sleeps on cold shelter floors. Instead, she dozes peacefully on soft beds, basking in the love and safety of her forever family.
