After being shot in the back, a stray cat was found paralyzed and needs our assistance to walk again.
Thousands of stray cats wander the streets of Greece, many of them hungry, injured, and in desperate need of medical attention. Life is already difficult for these animals, and sadly, some suffer even more at the hands of cruel individuals.
One such cat, Ninja, was discovered unable to move his back legs after being shot and abandoned on the street. Thankfully, the local shelter Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T. stepped in and rushed him to a nearby animal hospital. Ninja was in severe pain, with sores on his hind legs caused by dragging them. Emergency surgery was his only hope—the bullet had lodged dangerously close to his spine. Though he’s beginning to recover, the journey ahead will be long.
His caregivers say, “Ninja is one of the sweetest souls we’ve ever met. He’s full of life, playful, and always happy despite everything he’s endured. He’s FIV-positive but incredibly gentle and social with people and other cats.”
This brave little cat deserves a second chance at life in a safe, loving home. Greater Good Charities’ Emergency Animal Medical Fund is helping cover the cost of his surgery and ongoing treatments, giving him the opportunity to walk again.
As part of his rehabilitation, Ninja is undergoing physiotherapy, which has already made a noticeable difference—he can now use the litter box independently! The shelter added, “We created a special space for Ninja to feel at ease, and he now shares it with Cato, another paralyzed cat who has become his companion.”
Ninja still needs months of treatment before he can try to walk again. Your support can help make that possible. Will you help fund his continued care?
In late 2023, local groups in Xanthi, Northern Greece, reached out to Greater Good Charities for help with over 600 stray pets living near a municipal dump. Since then, in collaboration with the Animal Rescue Site and local partners, they’ve provided food, medical care, spay/neuter programs, and support for fostering and adoption.
Thanks to donor generosity, these efforts are expanding, reaching more areas of Greece and aiding countless cats and dogs in need.
Ninja is just one of the many lives being transformed—but we can’t continue without your help. Please join us in raising $4,000 to support Ninja and other vulnerable animals like him.
