Wildlife faces enormous challenges today. With so many roads and highways cutting through their habitats, it’s becoming harder for animals to navigate the lands they’ve called home for generations.
Thankfully, compassionate rescuers were there when it mattered most—for one tiny, heartbroken fawn.
A baby deer was found lying beside his mother’s lifeless body, clinging to the hope that she might breathe again. Volunteers from Wild Florida Rescue—who are sadly used to such heartbreaking scenes—were deeply moved by this particular call.
A concerned citizen had alerted the rescue team after spotting the young fawn on the roadside, curled up next to his mother who had likely been hit by a passing motorist. Tragically, the driver didn’t stop, leaving the mother deer behind.
When the rescue team arrived, they found the fawn refusing to leave his mother’s side, standing vigil in confusion and sorrow. He was just a few days old, still too young to understand what had happened—he hadn’t moved from where she had fallen.
The scene broke the hearts of the volunteers. It was clear the baby deer had been there for nearly 24 hours without food or water—he was dehydrated and vulnerable. Had the call come any later, he might not have survived either.
Thankfully, caring people intervened in time. Thanks to their quick action and compassion, this precious little one was given a second chance at life.
