Purchasing a Black Angus Bull for $6,500: Investing in Quality

Not long ago, I spent $6,500 on a registered Black Angus bull, excited about the potential improvement in my herd’s genetics. He looked ideal—robust, healthy, and exactly what I was looking for. I couldn’t wait to see the benefits he’d bring.

However, once I introduced him to the cows, my enthusiasm started to wane. Instead of showing any interest, he simply wandered off to graze. Day after day, he completely ignored the herd, making no attempts to breed.

Weeks went by, and I became increasingly frustrated. I started wondering if he was too young or just not suited for breeding. It felt like I’d made a poor investment with no returns in sight. Eventually, I called the vet, who gave him a thorough examination. The vet pronounced him healthy but likely inexperienced. “Give him one of these pills daily,” he said, handing me a bottle of supplements. Skeptical but out of options, I followed his instructions.

To my surprise, within two days, the bull underwent a complete transformation. He became unstoppable, breeding all the cows—and even broke through the fence to breed the neighbor’s cows as well. The change was incredible.

Of course, my neighbors weren’t exactly thrilled. I assured them I’d reinforce the fences, though I couldn’t help but admire the bull’s sudden determination.

Out of curiosity, I tasted one of the pills. It was minty, like a peppermint. Hard to believe something so simple could cause such a dramatic shift. Looking back, I realized I’d been too quick to judge. What seemed like a bad investment turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. Now, I just need sturdier fences—and maybe a few more of those pills.
